Clemson Finishes Fifth at Nexus Collegiate

CLEMSON, S.C. Zack Gordon finished sixth in the individual race to lead Clemson to a fifth-place team finish at the Nexus Collegiate at Albany Golf Club in Nassau, The Bahamas. The three-day, 54-hole tournament was played at the site of Tiger Woods Hero Challenge that is played each December. For the third straight day, high winds that at times reached 30 miles per hour had a significant impact on the scores. The stroke average for the 56 golfers over the three rounds was 79.80, one of the highest on record for a team tournament involving Clemson. Six-over-par was the best individual score for the three rounds and Auburn won the team portion with a score of 47-over-par 911. Clemson finished in fifth place with a 935 score. Ohio State was second at 914, North Florida was third at 927 and Mississippi State was fourth at 931. There were nine teams in the field. CLEMSON, S.C. Zack Gordon and Kyle Cottam remain in the top 10 individually and Clemson is in fourth place as a team after two rounds of the Nexus Collegiate at the Albany Golf Club in Nassau, Bahamas. The event, the first of the spring for the Clemson team, is being held at the same course that plays host to the Tiger Woods Hero Challenge each December.The weather conditions on Tuesday were much more difficult than any of the 19 PGA stars faced at the Hero Challenge this past December. Winds hit upwards of 25 mph on the course that has very few trees, and the scores reflected the conditions. The average score for the 56 players on Tuesday was 80.9 and no player shot even par or better. Only 20 of the 56 players broke 80. For the first two rounds all 18 holes have played over par, including the par four 18th hole that has played to an average of 4.80.Through 36 holes, host school Auburn has the team lead at 605, 29-over-par. CLEMSON, S.C. Kyle Cottam had an even-par 72 in windy conditions to lead Clemson to a second-place standing after Monday’s first round of the Nexus Collegiate at the Albany Golf Club in Nassau The Bahamas. The nine teams and 57 players in the tournament will continue play on Tuesday and Wednesday at the same course that plays host to Tiger Woods’s Hero Challenge professional tournament each December.Players from the nine schools found conditions difficult as the stroke average was 78.91 on the par 72 course that measures 7,414 yards. Only three players broke par. The individual leader is Adam Wallin of Ohio State, who carded a four-under-par 68 that included a six-under-par 30 on the back nine. He owns a three-shot lead.The Buckeyes have the team lead with a 293 score, five-over-par.  Clemson is second at 302, 14-over-par, while host school Auburn is third at 304. Clemson Opens Spring Season in The Bahamas

CLEMSON, S.C. - The Clemson men’s golf team will open its spring team season on Monday, Feb. 14 at the Nexus Collegiate at the Albany Golf Club in New Providence, The Bahamas. It will be the first time Clemson has played an event in The Bahamas. The field will include teams from the ACC, SEC and Big Ten and will run Feb. 14-16 with the 10 teams  playing 18 holes each day.Clemson will be one of 10 teams in the field at the 7414-yard, par 72 course that has been the home to Tiger Woods Hero Challenge December tournament for several years. The Hero Challenge is not a PGA Tour event, but an invitational that features 19 of the top players in the world. Viktor Hovland won the 2021 Tournament this past December.Clemson will take seven players to the tournament, five who will count towards the team score, and two who will play as individuals.
