Miller’s New Slider, Brothers as Lefty Two, Bryant Suddenly Better at Defense, and Other Cubs Bullets Rough night’s sleep has me really behind the eight ball this morning … •   Shelby Miller’s success this spring – in results and in the eye test – continued for another couple quality innings yesterday, with plenty of emphasis on the slider. It’s a pitch he developed last year but never got to throw in game action, and it is a wholly new addition to his mix, which had previousl...

The Cubs whooped the Rangers 9-0 today, which is a Spring Training thing, but also a “the Rangers might be really bad this year” thing. Zach Davies was so efficient that his three innings of work were over in 30 minutes (literally, even counting the Cubs’ half-innings in the first and second). Cubs pick up a 9-0 win over the Rangers. BASEBALL IS BACK TODAY*!!! **(Well, but not the Cubs yet. They play tomorrow.) •   As the team photo headshot suggested, Kyle Ryan is indeed now in camp with the Cubs. Jordan Bastian reports that he’s practicing with the team, but is still technically on the COVID list (not sure how that works, but glad he’s all good to go). When he’s officially activated, the Cubs will have to re-clear a 40-man roster spot, and they’ll have to clear another for the Ryan Tepera signing, too. I suspe...
