Japan s opposition parties on Sunday demanded an extension of the current Diet session beyond its scheduled end on June 16 to discuss measures to contain the coronavirus pandemic.
Although the ruling coalition plans to close the ordinary Diet session as scheduled, Jun Azumi, from the main opposition Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, said more time is needed to debate COVID-19 vaccination programs and whether to hold the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics from July 23.
