The Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Abdulaziz Garba Gafasa and the House Majority Leader, Kabiru Hassan Dashi, have resigned their positions.
Member representing Doguwa, Salisu Ibrahim Riruwai, confirmed the resignation of the duo. No specific reason has been given for the decisions.
The resignation letters were received at 1:08am on Tuesday by the Kano Assembly.
“The speaker resigned on his own personal reason, according to his resignation letter sent to the 9th Assembly platform at 1:08am, while the majority leader did not give reason for his resignation,” Ibrahim said.
A new speaker and a majority leader, according to Doguwa, would emerge during plenary later Tuesday.

Following the resignation of the Speaker of Kano State House of Assembly, Abdulaziz Garba Gafasa and the Majority Leader, Labaran Abdul Madari on Monday, the member representing Makoda Constituency, Hamisu Chidari has emerged as the new Speaker of the House.
In a plenary on Tuesday, the member representing Wudil Constituency Nuhu Abdullahi Achika nominated Hamisu Chidari for the position of Speaker and was seconded by Sanusi Usman Bataiya.
The Speaker was immediately sworn-in without resistance from the floor and he thanked the members for the confidence they reposed on him.

Kano State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, elected member representing Makoda Constituency, Hamisu Chidari, as a new speaker to replace former Speaker Abdulaziz Gafasa who resigned in the early of Tuesday
This was just as Labaran Abdul Madari was reelected Majority Leader of the House and Abdullahi Iliyasu Yar Yasa became Deputy Majority Leader.
The former speaker, Abdulaziz Gafasa, tendered his resignation as Speaker in the early hour of Tuesday, citing personal reasons for his decision.
However, a member representing Wudil constituency, Nuhu Abdullahi Achika, nominated Hamisu Chidari for the position and was seconded by Sanusi Usman Bataiya.
