âThis decision has been the result of reflection, allowed to mature but has been made for a long time,â Labeaume said.
He was not specific on his future plans.
âMy plan is to rest, sleep, sleep, sleep,â he quipped. âI want some peace.â
He made one thing abundantly clear though.
âPolitics is over,â he said when asked if he would consider running provincially or federally. âForget it. It will never happen.â
Born in Roberval, Labeaume, a former mining industry executive, focused the early part of his term, which started in 2007, on making Quebec City a major tourism attraction. His first big accomplishment was saving the then faltering celebrations for the cityâs 400th anniversary.
