Sandra Griffin was hesitant about filing for unemployment after the pandemic hit.
The 63-year-old St. Louis resident wasn’t used to the state’s online unemployment platform, and she called a few times over the summer to make sure she was doing it right. Every time, she said, she was met with reassurances.

Kansas City metro area health officials are grappling with how to handle continuing case count increases after reopening businesses more than five months ago.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment said Wednesday the state has 292,836 confirmed cases of COVID-19, and there have been 4,724 deaths since the outbreak started. Overall the state said 12% of the population has been vaccinated. Kansas is now only updating COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
