Apapa-Yaba standard gauge rail begins operation soon

Train to deliver 500 containers daily   The long-awaited standard gauge expected to provide the needed alternative to the movement of cargo on the road to solve the persistent gridlock around the Apapa seaports will kick off operation before the end of this quarter.     The rail is expected to aid the evacuation of cargoes from the ports, facilitate export, reduce gridlock on port access roads and curb the huge revenue losses to the bottlenecks at the ports.     The project, which is being executed by the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) and AMP Terminals, is designed to run alongside the existing narrow gauge from the Apapa Seaport to the NRC terminal at Yaba.

Rail project: Don t demolish Apapa port exit gate, Importers beg CCECC

Share Some importers and licensed Customs agents at the Lagos Port Complex Apapa have appealed to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), the contractor handling the construction of rail line at the port, to ensure that it does not disrupt the movement of containers in and out of the port with the planned demolition of the container terminal exit gate. The port users believe that the disruption of the movement of containers at the nation’s busiest seaport will further increase the prices of goods in the market, worsen inflation in the country and compound the Apapa gridlock. In November, the importers and clearing agents said they were unable to conclude their transactions while loaded trucks were unable to exit the port when CCECC mobilised to site, blocked the container terminal truck exit gate and began demolition of structures in the terminal. The blockade also made it impossible for empty trucks to enter the terminal to pick up containers for delivery

Attack: ENL Donates Computers, Printers to NPA

ENL Consortium, operator of Terminals C and D of the Lagos Port Complex Apapa, has donated various types of office items including desktop computers, photocopy machines, laser jet printers, and UPS backups to the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to cushion the effects of the damage done to the NPA headquarters on October 21 by suspected hoodlums. The suspected hoodlums, under the guise of the #ENDSARS protest organised against Police brutality in the country, had set the NPA headquarters annex building and several vehicles on fire. The arsonists also carted away several office equipment belonging to the agency. Speaking during the donation of the items in Lagos on Tuesday, the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of ENL Consortium, Vicky Haastrup, reiterated her condemnation of the attack on the NPA headquarters building.
