चीन और पाकिस्तान की सीमा से सटे लेह-लद्दाख और कारगिल तक जाने वाले सामरिक महत्व के मनाली-लेह तथा मनाली-दारचा-पदम-कारगिल मार्ग पर केंद्र सरकार चार सुरंगें बनाने जा रही है। इससे मनाली से कारगिल की दूरी 260 और लेह की दूरी 250 किलोमीटर कम होगी। मनाली-लेह मार्ग पर 29 किमी लंबी तीन सुरंगें बनेंगी। 16040 फीट ऊंचे बारालाचा दर्रा में सुरंग की डीपीआर बनाने के आदेश जारी कर दिए हैं।
