MANILA, Philippines: Former Pangasinan fourth district representative Ma. Georgina Gina de Venecia and 15 others from the same district took their oath Wednesday afternoon as new members of the political party Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD).

MANILA, Philippines: The Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) is now the largest party at the House of Representatives, with 89 members, including three whom Speaker Martin Romualdez swore in on Tuesday.

TWO lawmakers were among those inducted as new members of the Ruling Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) party, strengthening the number of lawmakers under the party to 73.

Recent events suggest that the Marcos-Duterte “UniTeam” that stormed last year’s presidential election may not make it to the next election in 2028.

Sara Duterte’s resignation from Lakas-CMD followed the demotion of her ally, former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, in the House of Representatives.

Sen. Ramon Bong Revilla, chairperson of Lakas-CMD where Arroyo sits as president emerita and Romualdez is president, said their party “continues to be united and supportive” of Marcos.

As expected after a presidential election, membership in the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan party of outgoing President Duterte has started to dwindle, and the once powerful Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats political party is re-emerging as a political force to reckon with.
