I’ve spent most of this summer so far driving solo around Europe – entirely against the odds, given the state of the pandemic. It wasn’t on a jolly, I might add. Few people in their right mind would choose to squash themselves, a giant German shepherd and a great deal of luggage into a tiny Fiat 500 for a 2,500-mile road trip at the moment, just for the fun of it. If you have managed to leave the country in the past year you’ll know crossing one international border is hassle enough: try darting intermittently across five, on the Continent, with a GB number plate – a registration that screams “Rebel!
