(KWAT)- The Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office says two people died when the ATV they were riding on broke through the ice on the northern end of the lake.
Authorities receive a 911 call shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday. Codington County Search and Rescue, the Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office, Game, Fish and Parks, South Dakota Highway Patrol and Lake Norden Ambulance were among the agencies responding.
Two bodies were recovered. The names of the 60 year-old man and eight year-old boy have not been released.
A short time later, authorities received a report of another four-wheeler and fish house that went through the ice on the northeast side of Lake Poinsett. No injuries were reported in that incident.

WATERTOWN Two people died Saturday in a fishing accident on Lake Poinsett, according to the Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a post on the Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, the Watertown Dispatch Center received a 911 call shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday that an ATV and two individuals had broken through the ice.
Emergency personnel from the Hamlin County Emergency Management, Codington County Search and Rescue and Lake Norden Ambulance were dispatched to the scene. Also assisting were the Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Game Fish and Parks and the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
