A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the north campus of Essentia Health Detroit Lakes on Tuesday, Sept. 5 the first day of classes for the five interns in the program's inaugural session.
The 2021-2022 school year has just come to a close, and the latest numbers show enrollment held mostly steady, dipping by just about 3% over the course of the year. The year ended with a total K-12 enrollment of 2,598 a decline of 89 students from the start of the school year.
Since relocating to their new building on West River Road last fall, the students and staff at Laker Transitions have been busy making it into a home and now, they want to show it off. A May 19 open house is planned for the facility and its programming, which is designed to assist adult-aged students with disabilities in making the transition from high school into adulthood, by teaching them job and life skills.
Members of the Laker Transitions team, Karen Nudell and Wendy Fritz, outlined the program’s development and recent renovations to their facility at a Monday, Jan. 24 meeting of the Detroit Lakes School Board.
