Feb 22, 2021 GLADSTONE, Mich. Thomas I. Davis, age 93, of Gladstone, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at LakeView Assisted Living in Gladstone after a life-long career in banking and finance. Tom was born December 13, 1927 in Gladstone, the son of Shirley and Katherine (Mackin) Davis, one of the earliest families of Gladstone. His father moved to Gladstone from Trenary, MI, in the early 1910’s, building the family home in the 1200 block of Delta Avenue. His mother’s parents moved to Gladstone from Masonville, Mich., in 1888, building a house in the 900 block of Michigan Avenue. Tom was raised in Gladstone and was a 1945 graduate of Gladstone High School. Upon graduating from high school, Tom joined the Army Air Corps at Selfridge Field, Michigan, serving with the 2nd Combat Airdrome Group in the Airfield Crash Fire Department. Phyllis Bray-Bargo, who recently celebrated her birthday. Bray-Bargo is the mother of five children, widow of two husbands and pet owner of many beloved dogs and most recently, a loved cat, named Sophie. She lived her married life in Vulcan, then moved to Iron Mountain. When she needed more help, she lived two years with daughter and son-in-law, Sally and the late Jerry Hampton. She now resides at Lakeview Assisted Living, which she enjoys.

Dec 15, 2020 GLADSTONE Bernadette “Buck” Verhamme, 95, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 11, at Lakeview Assisted Living in Gladstone due to COVID-related complications. Her family was by her side. She was born March 3, 1925, in north Escanaba to Severin and Leona (Cretens) Buckland. She graduated from Escanaba High School in 1943. Her time as a cheerleader in high school would provide joy to many throughout her life, as she would burst into a cheer anytime, anywhere, up to just a few weeks ago. After high school, during World War II, she moved to Milwaukee and worked in an ammunition plant. Just before the war she went on her first date with Eugene Verhamme. Their romance rekindled after the war, and he soon became the love of her life. They married Sept. 21, 1946, and were married for 59 years when he passed Oct. 10, 2005.
