FHSU Criminal Justice Club excels at regionals FHSU Media Relations Members of the Lambda Alpha Epsilon chapter at Fort Hays State University represented their university well at the Region 3 Virtual Conference of the American Criminal Justice Association/Lambda Alpha Epsilon earlier this semester. Fort Hays State won the Top Percent Award, which goes to the team that wins the most trophy points per member. It was the first time FHSU won the group award since re-chartering with ACJA/LAE in 2016. Students and advisers from five chapters across the region were pleased to participate after the national conferences in 2020 and 2021, as well last fall’s regional conference, were canceled because of COVID-19 disruptions.

But, there is still a long way to go. The 62-acre property a few miles south of Brazil on State Road 59 was able to hold a few “COVID camps” last summer for limited groups of middle schoolers recommended by sheriffs throughout the state. Now that the COVID restrictions are loosening a little bit, the ranch is making a full-steam ahead drive toward radically upgrading its facilities with hopes of being fully operational next year. The ranch’s goal is to serve at-risk youth who are not in trouble but might be “growing up on wrong side of the tracks,” future law enforcement officers, victims of crime and witnesses of crimes in a safe environment often vastly different from their normal surroundings.

April 21, 2021 MACOMB/MOLINE, IL - Six students graduating from Western Illinois University at the end of the Spring 2021 semester have received the highest recognition from their colleges for their overall academic excellence by being named a College Scholar. Faculty in each of the University s four academic colleges; Global Education and Outreach and the Centennial Honors College each select a graduating senior as the college s outstanding student. Students graduating as College Scholars have satisfied the criteria of excellence established by their individual academic college s faculty members. A Departmental Scholar is an outstanding degree candidate in an academic major as determined by the faculty in the major department. An Honors Scholar is a student in the Centennial Honors College who has completed a set of honors requirements and has achieved a grade point average of at least 3.4 on a 4.0 scale.

FSU Dance Marathon raises more than $1.47 million For the Kids Jacob Goetz On March 5-7 of 2021, Florida State University’s Dance Marathon held a weekend-long fundraising function which raised $1.47 million. Dance Marathon was held at the IM Field at Florida State and was both in-person and virtual this year.  Miranda Torres, the public relations head for Dance Marathon at Florida State, gave her insight on the event, stating the success, logistics of the Dance Marathon, and challenges of hosting the event in the wake of a global pandemic.  “The 2021 Dance Marathon was everything we hoped for and more,” Torres said. Due to COVID-19, this was the first year that the event was both in-person and virtual, and we were not sure how the event was going to turn out. However, we were able to create a successful fundraiser, both on Zoom and in person with a drive-in option.”
