The LM comprising the lander (Vikram) and the rover (Pragyan) is scheduled to make a touch down near the south polar region of the Moon at 6:04 pm on Wednesday, a feat not achieved by any country so far.

The Lander and the Rover have scientific payloads to carry out experiments on the lunar surface. The main function of the Propulsion Module (PM) was to carry the Lander Module (LM) from the launch vehicle injection till final lunar 100 km circular polar orbit and separate the LM from PM, which it did.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Wednesday said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that it is all set to initiate the Automatic Landing Sequence (ALS). The scheduled timing for the soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moons south pole on August 23, 2023 (Wednesday), is around 18:04 IST, with the powered descent of Vikram lander expected at 17:45 IST.
