India inched closer to its lunar dreams today with its ambitious Chandrayaan-3 mission successfully completing a key manoeuvre ahead of its landing of the Moon's surface next Wednesday.

The Moon lander or the lander is part of the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft.

The Lander Module, housing Vikram (lander) and Pragyan (rover), will soon descend to a lunar orbit for a soft landing on the Moon’s southern pole on August 23. India’s space agency yesterday released images of the moon taken from its Chandrayaan-3 space craft as it approaches the lunar south pole, a previously unexplored region thought to contain water ice where Russia is trying to land first.

Chandrayaan-3 captured the images on two days, first by the Lander Position Detection Camera (LPDC) on August 15 and second by the Lander Imager (LI) Camera-1 on August 17
