Overnight. A navy jet crashed off the coast of Southern California. The pilot was trying to land on the san diego based carrier the uss carl vinson. According to navy officials, a pilot ejected safely from the f18 superhornet aircraft and was later rescued but the plane has not been recovered. The cause of the crash is under investigation. Also last night, a military jet crashed into a residential neighborhood in california. It burst into flames setting several homes on fire. The accident happened late yesterday near Imperial Valley located about 90 miles east of san diego. Witnesses say they heard an explosion before thick smoke started billowing into the air. The pilot safely ejected from the plane before impact. And there were no injuries reported on the ground.
