From staff reports
The team at Hickory Public Schools isnât waiting until school is out for the summer. The school district is already immersed in a campaign to capture the attention of families, reminding everyone that the fall semester begins for students Aug. 23.
Over the past year, with the cloud of COVID-19 limiting in-person learning, the district has shifted the sails to a positive direction, navigating forward. The HPS teachers, staff and administrators are steering toward an exciting return to school.
âGranted, we are just wrapping up the 2020-2021 school year with our last day and graduation ceremonies scheduled for this Friday, May 28, and our HPS Summer Learning Program is starting soon; but Iâve heard teachers, staff, and even students share their enthusiasm for the return to normal for the new school year,â said Beverly Snowden, HPS director of communications.

Newhall School District To Resume In-Person Learning Next Week For Some Grades
The Newhall School District announced Thursday that Transitional Kindergarten through second-grade students are set to resume in-class learning next Monday, after being shut down in March of 2020 due to the coronavirus.
Students would resume in-person learning Monday, Feb. 8, making NSD the first district in Santa Clarita with students without special needs to resume in-person learning, according to officials.
During last Thursday’s weekly check-in call with Dr. Barbara Ferrer from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH), NSD officials were informed that school districts in the County who had an approved waiver prior to the release of the new State Framework on Jan. 14 can proceed with reopening, said Jeff Pelzel, the superintendent for the NSD in a letter sent to parents Thursday.
