In Iowa City schools, junior high students fared worst during pandemic

Junior high students, overall Overall, junior high students in Iowa City (seventh- and eighth-graders) are struggling far more this year than last: 20.5% ended the trimester with at least one F, as compared to 13% before the pandemic. Online learning appears to be more difficult for junior high students than older ones. About 16% of onsite kids were failing at the end of the second trimester compared to about 28% of online students. High school students, overall High school students aren t struggling as much as their younger peers. The percentage of high schoolers with F s at the end of the second trimester is nearly identical to before the pandemic 12.7% this year compared to 13.1% last.

Canton Central shifts to remote learning due to COVID case among bus drivers

Tuesday, March 2, 2021 - 2:32 pm CANTON Canton Central has shifted to remote learning after several members of its transportation department were ordered to quarantine following a positive COVID-19 test among its staff. “This morning we were notified that a member of our transportation team has tested positive for COVID-19,” CCS officials said in a statement on the district Facebook page. “Contact tracing is now complete.” As a result of this case and quarantines from yesterday, almost half of the district’s transportation department is now unable to report to work. “As a result, we will transition to fully remote instruction through next Monday, March 8, 2021. It is anticipated that we will return to in-person instruction on Tuesday, March 9, 2021,” officials aid.

The timeline plans to bring students back in two phases, beginning with student populations who are most in need of in-person instruction and support. Self-contained special education students, newcomer English Language Learners, and students in preschool through third grade will return to in-person instruction on Monday, February 22.
