Set in Alexandria in 1920 when Egypt was under British rule, the series tells the real-life story of Egyptian sisters Raya and Sakina Bint Hammam, who come from a poor Alexandria neighbourhood and run a brothel operation that draws in powerful and influential Egyptian and British men. The sisters rely on petty theft that lead to the murder of 17 women and are put on trial. They are found guilty and become the first women in Egypt to be sentenced to death.
