This may be where we can get cooperation with the russians. And the printers row lit fest continues. Up next, author david kalan talks about modern day philanthropy. Philanthropy. Good afternoon and welcome to the thinking tribune annual lit fest. Id like to. We have a grayhaired approval. I met him in downtown new york city literary regular parties and gatherings that use to invite people, fact brigades and phone brigades before the internet and knew him over the years and went on to work with him when running World Policy Institute and he was at the most National Think tank, we worked closely on a number of projects, so i had the pleasure to read his earlier books, the cheating culture, the moral center, he has written seven of them and i have always been impressed by david because he asks really hard questions. He comes up with an opinion but is very good about seeing both sides and trying to find where things come together and where we can come up with solutions. He is not an ideol
So, what do you do about it . Well, the only country that actually has influence with the North Koreans is probably china. But the chinese have always been more fearful of the collapse of the regime than of a nuclear regime. So theyve refused to tighten the screws on the North Koreans and they could do a lot. They could close the border. They could deny them fuel oil. The chinese could really hurt the regime. The chinese have to be convinced that they now have to do whatever it takes to stop this regime and when you hear the administration say, if you wont deal with the North Koreans, we will, thats the message that theyre sending. Now, the we will is kind of ugly because if you want to look at military options, youre looking at seoul, which is very vulnerable and very close to the border, to the doe militarized zone. The North Koreans could do a lot of damage, a lot of civilian casualties, very quickly in seoul. So the options are not very good. Its complicated by the new president in

Satisfied with the Affordable Care act with their plans, except for those with high deductibles. A survey found. With the majority of people satisfied, what incentive do democrats have to change it . Guest well, i think there would argue that those people, you know, if they are going to the doctor for a flu shot or getting some minor procedure done, yes they would have to pay more. But if they have a cancer diagnosis, they are not going to go bankrupt for a 20,000 hospital bill, at they would have perhaps previously. So i think democrats would argue that at the end of the day it is still a good deal. And that perhaps it is to be more Consumer Education on what people are buying when they go to sign up. Host key west, florida. It. The democrats. Good morning. Caller good morning. Hello, jennifer. Getting back to the of portable health care act, in 1974, hawaii made Health Insurance provided by employers mandatory. And in the last 40 years, it has been very, very successful. In fact, it
We provide training. We deal with issues of implicit bias , which is a huge issue of why people do what they do and getting to understand the impact of it. We have the department of justice has a Civil Rights Division which everyone is aware of with pattern of practice investigations, most recently the agreement in cleveland. The ferguson report. We have a lot of services. And i think the way we respond to crisis, the way we respond to whats happening in the country is, one, to provide assistance to communities. I think the attorney general said it best that we cannot federalize local Law Enforcement, and thats not the intent. Theres a reason why would why we created these 16,000 departments, it was about local control. But we can help set up standards by which the 16,000 agencies should be able to follow. And we should assure that whether its two officers or 20,000, that they are engaging in constitutional policing and that the impact to the community is the same. We can also provide
