You can hear it seeping through every song, oozing out of every lyric, and feel the shedding of her skin with every note on her first full-length album Shift out September 1. The subtle and understated yearning in her voice, the intonation in her haunting vocals and delivery, Calve is longing for something more.
This week’s show features long-time Mountain Stage favorite Tim O’Brien and his band, joined on this week’s line-up by David Mayfield Parade, Dirty Grass Players, Philip Bowen, and Lauren Calve. Join us on one of these NPR stations starting Friday, March 31, and be sure to subscribe to our podcast so you never miss a note.
I hope you will join me for John’s Porch this Sunday morning, December 11th, from 10:00 until noon as we explore the world of angels in song. From literal angels to sweethearts, angels have long held a fascination for songwriters and singers and we’re going to sample some of those works. We’ll have music from Jimmy Dawkins, Sharon Lewis, Otis Rush, Robert Plant, JD Wilkes, Susan Tedeschi and more.
