This Saturday, April 24, the Lowest Greenville Collective is shining a light on the diverse restaurants, bars and businesses along their namesake street from Belmont Avenue to Ross Avenue. The fourth annual
Experience Lowest Greenvillewill offer a variety of food and drink specials, yoga, flowers, lots of mimosas and general hoopla, like super karaoke.
The Lowest Greenville Collective was created in 2014 for the 70-plus businesses in the area. With this event, they’re hoping to bring a little bustle to the area after a challenging 13 months.
One of the restaurants involved is a new kid on the block, the tiki bar Swizzle. It opened earlier this year when capacity restrictions were in place, a particularly challenging way to start a business. Since then, they’ve shaken their way into our bellies with rum drinks, a full mahalo experience and Dole Whip mimosas (pineapple soft serve and Champagne).

Lucky’s Hot Chicken recently opened a second location, which is a relief because we can hardly find any hot chicken around here. Steven Monacelli previously wrote about the first location offering: “The tenders and wings plates come piled on top of white bread, which sops up the extra spice blend, a Nashville hot chicken tradition.” When it comes to any food that can employ the verb sops, there’s always room for more.
Postino Wine Cafe opened this weekend next to Merit Cafe. This is the third outpost for this spot (the others are in Arizona and Houston). Each location has an art installation that reflects the neighborhood or history of its area. The Deep Ellum location has an entire wall of vintage concert tickets “gathered from the community and Postino fans across the country.” Back in February, they solicited stubs via their Facebook page in exchange for $5 in Postino Bucks for every 10 tickets.
The State Fair of Texas, United Way Dallas’ Southern Dallas Thrives, and Communities Foundation of Texas have collaborated with Atlanta-based Goodr to increase food access in South Dallas.
The initiative launched Saturday with a pop-up grocery store at Fair Park. As part of a pilot program, the Goodr Grocery Delivery Program will supply free groceries to families with limited access to transportation for the next four Saturdays.
Families must preregister for each delivery, which now includes availability for just April 24 (check back for more dates).
Goodr provides fresh produce, meat, shelf-stable items, milk and other beverages. The company’s tagline is “Feed More \\ Waste Less,” and according to their site, “We’ve made it easy to save money, feed more, and waste less through surplus food donation.”
