SAN ANTONIO – Two San Antonio Macy’s stores will close in the first quarter of 2021, company officials confirmed.
The Macy’s stores at Rolling Oaks Mall and the Shops at Rivercenter will close in the next few months as part of a cost-cutting plan that will shutter 125 stores over the next three years.
A clearance sale will begin in January and run for approximately eight to 12 weeks, a Macy’s spokesperson told KSAT.
Winter Haven Macy s closes after 40 years in business
Ken Suarez reports
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Macy‘s has just closed its store in Winter Haven after doing business there for more than four decades. Flyers posted on the front door announcing the closure now greet shoppers.
The unexpected news came as a disappointment to Goldie Brown of Lake Wales, a long- time customer. I am going to miss them because this is where I shop all the time, she told FOX 13.
She and other Polk County residents are going to have a much longer drive if they want to continue to shop at Macy’s.
The property manager for Citi Centre did not return multiple requests for comment.
The closure comes on the heels of Macy s rocky November third quarter earnings report. Ahead of Black Friday, the department store reported $3.99 billion in sales for the third quarter, down from $5.17 billion a year earlier. Macy s also reported a net loss of $91 million, or 29 cents a share, in the third quarter, down from about a $2 million profit, or a penny per share, a year earlier.
While Macy s sales have been declining for some time, many large retailers were financially impacted by the uncertainty the coronavirus pandemic has created. Store closures and the limitation of patrons to accommodate social distancing has been a hamper on businesses that have already struggled for years.

2020 was a sunny year for Florida orange juice
While 2020 was bad for many businesses, it was an exceptionally good year for Florida citrus growers. The industry wants to keep that momentum going. Remember at the beginning of the pandemic when everyone hoarded toilet paper? Turns out they were stocking up on orange juice, too. Sales of OJ have been declining for years. But in 2020 retail sales hit a five-year high according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. More from WMFE.
