On Tuesday, Nueces County will continue its longstanding tradition of raising its glass in a Toast to Texas Independence.
Hosted by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas Clara Driscoll Chapter, the Nueces County Historical Society and the Nueces County Historical Commission, on March 2 each year the groups have celebrated Texas Independence Day when the Texas Declaration of Independence was issued and signed at Washington-on-the-Brazos in 1836. We re going to be socially distanced and everyone should wear a mask, Kathy Wemer, chair of the Nueces County Historical Commission said. The audience will stand on the lawn of the Centennial House while the speakers and presentations take place on the porch. There will be no seating available.
