The rate of coronavirus infections in all areas of Hertfordshire is still high ahead of the county entering into Tier 4. Boris Johnson announced that from Sunday, areas in London, eastern and south-east England currently in Tier 3 will be moved into a new Tier 4. The move will effectively see areas moving up returning to the lockdown rules of November. These areas will not be able to join or form Christmas bubbles. For everyone else in England, the Christmas “bubble” policy – allowing up to three household to meet up over the holiday period – will be severely curtailed to apply on Christmas Day only.

Four parts of Hertfordshire will move into Tier 3 - Watford, Hertsmere, Three Rivers, and Broxbourne, along with the whole of London. Health Secretary Matt Hancock said there had been very sharp, exponential rises in cases. Cases have been rising across the whole of Watford as well as in Bushey in Hertsmere, and some parts of Three Rivers district. From 12.01am on Wednesday, residents in those four areas will have to abide by new Tier 3 restrictions.
