SIR – Paula Vennells, the former CEO of the Post Office, is handing back her CBE (telegraph.co.uk, January 9).

SIR – I’ve been asked to sign a petition to strip Paula Vennells, the former chief executive of the Post Office, of her CBE (report, January 6). What I fail to understand is why she was honoured in the first place. It must have been obvious that the Post Office’s handling of the Horizon scandal was grossly incompetent at the highest level. SIR – John Skipper (Letters, January 2) draws our attention to restrictions in some European countries, where young drivers are limited to carrying passengers over the age of 21 for the first year after passing their test. SIR – Letters concerning the failure of the Church of England to provide replacement vicars (December 21) quite rightly bemoan the loss of someone to lead them in worship. Yet this is not the only loss.

SIR – Michael Gove’s decision not to make local authorities set aside protected land for housing is most welcome. The suggestion from the Home Builders Federation that this will lead to a “further decline” in planning permission approvals is disingenuous.
