(NYRA) is saddened to report that Maple Leaf Mel sustained a catastrophic injury to her right front leg at the finish of Saturday’s Grade 1, $500,000 Test at Saratoga Race Course. Despite the immediate response of on-site veterinarians, the filly was humanely euthanized due to the severity of the injury.

Undefeated Maple Leaf Mel, who spurted to the lead out of the gate and opened up in the stretch, looked to have victory secured in $500,000 Test (G1) Saturday at Saratoga Race Course but fell just short of the finish line in a devastating and ultimately fatal breakdown.
