The Leaf Rapids Health Centre has now been closed indefinitely, as of Jan. 10.

On Dec. 29, NRHA said the Leaf Rapids Health Centre will reopen on Jan. 10 — but as of Saturday, that's no longer the case. This is the third time the hospital has been closed during the pandemic because of staffing problems. 

A long-time resident of Leaf Rapids feels it is not safe for his 83-year-old mother to return home from Winnipeg after the northern Manitoba towns health centre was closed until further notice due to persistent staffing issues.

The NRHA said Jan 4 that the Gillam Hospital emergency room and inpatient unit, closed since Dec. 28 due to lack of staff, will reopen at 4 p.m. Jan. 5.
