The deal backed by the UAW is virtually unchanged from the previous three union-endorsed agreements that Lear workers rejected since early August, by 95 percent, 75 percent, and 72 percent respectively.

While Fain and the UAW leadership have claimed they have to “protect” the strike fund, none of them have missed a single paycheck from their bloated $200,000-plus salaries during the strikes at the Big Three or Mack.

Whatever UAW President Fain announces at his Friday afternoon Facebook event, it will be aimed at continuing to isolate workers and wear down their resistance to a sellout that the UAW bureaucracy worked out with the corporations and the Biden administration long ago.  

The decision that the UAW would not call a strike at Mack was no doubt made out of concern that a walkout there would lend fuel to the growing calls by Big Three workers for an all-out strike across the auto industry.

On Monday, over 100 workers at a parts manufacturing plant in Royersford, Pennsylvania went on strike against Dometic, a multi-billion dollar parts corporation headquartered in Sweden

The union bureaucracy is providing workers with as little information as possible in the hopes of tamping down militant demands for a significant increase in wages and benefits amid surging inflation across Canada, the elimination of multi-tier employment, and the preservation of jobs in the transition to the manufacture of EVs.

There are increasingly clear indications that Fain and his administration are preparing to block a strike at one or more of the companies and announce a pro-company deal.

UAW President Shawn Fain is following the same playbook used by the Teamsters at UPS, seeking to disarm and demobilize opposition through various stunts as it prepares to impose a sellout.    .

The strike authorization vote comes after workers voted down a proposed contract on August 6 that was backed by the United Auto Workers (UAW).
