Earth Day 2021: Pandemic cuts down on paper at local schools There’s another reason for celebration this Earth Day: Schools are saving trees. More electronic devices in the hands of students translates to less paper at area schools. In some cases, that reduction has been even greater since the pandemic began. Bedford Public Schools, Airport Community Schools and St. Mary Catholic Central High School are among the local schools that are reporting a paper reduction. Bedford Bedford Public Schools, like other school districts, purchases paper literally by the truckload. Each load is 840 cases. Administrators are finding they are making these purchases less frequently.

Turlock Library renovation closer to completion New rooms include Maker Space, Imagination Station This rendering of what the Turlock Library will look like when completed shows the adult section with a view of the maker space and children’s library. Across the country libraries have been feted this week as part of National Library Week with the theme of Welcome to the Library. Come early August that will be a phrase oft-repeated when the doors of the new Turlock Library open. The Focusing on the Future of the Turlock Library | 2020 fundraising committee set a goal of $1 million to ensure the Turlock branch will be a gem when opened. In the end, the committee brought in $1.5 million in community pledges and donations, mostly from naming rights.

Connor takes inspiration from Captain Tom to complete 101-mile Angus challenge

Inspired by the amazing effort of Captain Sir Tom Moore, a young Angus man has completed his own 101-mile challenge to give back to the charities which have supported him in his personal journey. Connor Black from Forfar has overcome learning disabilities to deliver peer support in building the confidence of others at two local projects with which he is involved. The 25-year-old’s determination has already taken him to Holyrood where the Angus work was showcased. Connor volunteers at the Learning Tree Partnership in Arbroath.
