Troop Comforts Ltd (TCL), a defence PSU, has received a request for proposal (RFP) for its indigenous military gear, while its products are being tried out by the Eastern Command of the Indian Army. TCL is developing mountaineering boots, crampons, sleeping bags, and clothing items for personnel stationed in difficult terrains. The company aims to reduce dependence on foreign technology and save foreign exchange by manufacturing high-quality defence gear domestically.

Avgarde Systems Pvt Ltd (AVGARDE), cofounded by Manash Bhuyan and Nilutpal Choudhury in 2018, is a startup incubated at IISc Bangalore, and IIT Guwahati. It is a radio frequency and wireless technology-focused deeptech start-up building an AI-driven object sensing platform for low-altitude airspace management.

Manufacturers, from seasoned companies to start-ups, showcased their products at the first-ever defense expo in the Northeast region of India. Scandron Pvt Ltd displayed customized drones, some of which are already being tested by the Indian Army. Magellanic Cloud, the company that owns Scandron, is also working on drones to carry heavy equipment to remote areas. Start-up Defense and Space Robotics Laboratory (DSRL) showcased robots for critical activities during warfare and crime control.

The event witnessed huge participation by Industrial Partners from all over the country. The event also marked the beginning of a new era in the field of Defence technology, wherein the defence industries were provided a platform by the Eastern Command of the Indian Army in a first of its kind event taking place in the city which is Gateway to the North-East India.

The first-ever defence tech show in Northeast India, called East Tech, has begun in Guwahati. The two-day event, jointly organised by the Indian Army and the Assam government, features nearly 200 manufacturers showcasing cutting-edge technology and top-end gear. The aim of the show is to expose manufacturers to the needs of the armed forces and enable direct procurement of their products.
