Couple reaches resolution after raccoon arson committed in front of their house

LEBANON COUNTY, Pennsylvania (WPMT) Ellie and John Salahub were in their home when they heard their neighbor yelling for them to come out of their house to see what happened at the end of their driveway. Shortly before 9 p.m. on Nov. 16, 2020, two people drove their car to the couple’s house, placed a raccoon down, and set it on fire. The couple thinks this act was in response to signs posted in front of their house promoting equality and peace. Ellie Salahub says she and her husband have experienced backlash to their signs since this past spring. “People driving past, blaring their horns, yelling profanities, making lewd gestures at us and just continued through the summer on a daily basis,” said Salahub.

Arson in North Cornwall leads to a push for anti-racism resolution

On a late November night, a pickup truck stopped in front of the Lebanon County home of John and Ellie Salahub to make a statement. Signs in their front yard had been drawing vulgar responses by passersby, but this time, Nov. 16, an animal was set on fire. Home security footage showed that someone got out of the truck, and within moments, the front yard burst into light.  Almost immediately, flames flare up several feet towards a wooden fence and a tree, John Salahub said. When the flames subsided, we were horrified to see a raccoon had obviously been doused with flammable fluid and ignited.
