After the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts told CBS 6 it would charge more than $28,000 to fulfill a request for information, a Virginia lawmaker spoke out against significantly high fees charged by government agencies to provide public records to citizens.

On April 28, CBS 6 submitted a request for records under the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA) to obtain emails containing "Monument Avenue" from 12 VMFA leaders over a five-month period.

Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney maintained the city has been transparent in its communication with the public regarding future plans for Monument Avenue.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Mayor Levar Stoney's Office called the transition "not remarkable" or "unexpected." Spokesperson Jim Nolan said the mayor wanted to allow the city to "take a breath" before proceeding, noting the pedestals were only completely removed a few weeks ago.
