Specifically to ask for federal help, to ask for new federal protections that could set a floor on Voting Rights that no state can fall below. Voter discrimination is found. we believe that the state of texas should be required to go through a preclearance process whenever it changes its voting laws and practices. the decision by the justice department is expected to trigger several legislation fights. holder said that this would not be the only challenge by the doj to protect voting rights. we could similar action in other states. congressman paul ryan once again voicing his concerns over president obama s ability to lead the nation. i don t think i have heard a single new thing in these speeches. i don t think it s a good approach. one reason i ran against him in the last campaign. he s pushing the same old ideas that proven to fail. he s pushing big-government regulations and taxes and spending, that actually make it harder to create jobs.
We heard the president yesterday ask american citizens who are concerned to phone, to email, to tweet their elected officials. how much influence do you think that might have at this point? it s funny that those phone calls and emails and tweets have been very effective in past legislation fights. many the health care bill, for example, that helped sway some members. back when they were discussing the bank bailouts, the tax deal at the end of december. at this point it s something different. you have a big group of new freshman republican members in the house. they are not budging. they re not listening to just about anybody. it s they re going on what they believe is a mandate with this big tea party election in 2010 and they haven t really budged. you re seeing business leaders
