Despite Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall's reassurances, the governors are outraged at what they see as a Defense Department end-run around their authorities that they say could set a negative precedent.

Governor Mike DeWine is voicing his opposition to a move that would move units from the Ohio National Guard into the U.S. Space Force.

"The Council of Governors respectfully, and with the strongest terms, objects to the Department’s proposal, LP 480. We ask that the Department of Defense immediately retract LP 480, then discuss the proposal with governors in a way consistent with federal law and respectful of the role of the Council."

(The Center Square) – Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine wants President Joe Biden to stop an Air Force plan to permanently federalize part of the Ohio National Guard into the U.S.

This week, Governor Mike DeWine called on President Joe Biden to withdraw proposed legislation that would permanently federalize portions of the Ohio National Guard into the U.S. Space Force.

Since the Space Force was formed in 2019 as part of the Department of the Air Force, a major point of contention has been what to do with the roughly 1,000 part-time Air National Guardsmen across 14 units operating space-related missions.

LD 1771 hopes to address what Maine's Chief Justice called a "Constitutional crisis" - wide-ranging delays in the process of criminal trials.

The new legislation will likely be more draconian than the Beijing-imposed national security law, and parts of it can also be applied outside Hong Kong.
