Doug Emhoff, husband of Vice President Kamala Harris, visited the Lehigh Valley on May 5 as part of the Biden Administration’s “Getting America Back on Track” tour.
The Second Gentleman toured the Bridgeworks Enterprise Center, a small business manufacturing incubator in Allentown hosted by the Allentown Economic Development Corporation. Emhoff spoke with mead makers, pharmaceutical heads, and restaurant owners about their struggles in the pandemic.
“You’ve had long-term family restaurants that have been there 20 years and they’ve had to close and let all the employees go and give all the food away,” Emhoff says, “A party planning business that literally shut down and all the employees were women and they couldn’t really come back to work and teach their kids online school,” Emhoff says.

Lehigh Valley Congresswoman Susan Wild won’t ever forget the first three Wednesdays of 2021.
First came the insurrection at the Capitol as she sat in the gallery of the U.S. House of Representative’s chambers. The following Wednesday she voted to impeach President Donald J. Trump for a second time.
This Wednesday, she watched President Joseph R. Biden Jr. sworn in as the 46th president on the steps of the Capitol, on a stage that pro-Trump rioters swarmed two weeks ago.
Sitting on the windswept Capitol lawn in clusters of socially-distanced chairs, Wild and her son, Clay, had a front row seat to history as California Sen. Kamala Harris become the nation’s first female, first Black and first Asian American vice president in one fell swoop.
