During my 25 years as a community campaigner I have passionately campaigned for education, creating more opportunities for young people, tackling the housing crisis and the climate crisis. I was the regeneration officer for the Loudoun Square and Trowbridge redevelopment, and was selected as the Wales delegate for the International Association for Community Development and Commonwealth Games in Glasgow 2014. Over the last 15 years I’ve supported young people in Cardiff South and Penarth to develop their skills in the arts and creative industries and to participate in a wide range of opportunities. THE Welsh Conservatives have selected Leighton Rowlands to contest the Cardiff South & Penarth seat in next year’s Senedd elections. Mr Rowlands has lived in the Vale all his life and knows Penarth and Cardiff well, and he says he knows the issues at the heart of the community. “I am delighted to have been selected,” he said. “I am passionate about Cardiff South and Penarth and know what matters to voters. I will be their voice and campaign hard on the issues that affect them.” Mr Rowlands, who was elected as the youngest County Mayor for the Vale in 2018, says he has raised many issues relating to Penarth like attempts to sell the Kymin, the demand to preserve Penarth s Victorian streetlights, and delays to much-needed upgrades to Penarth Leisure Centre.
