The Cambridge City Council earlier this month rejected a policy order on police demilitarization proposed by Councilor Quinton Y. Zondervan that sparked bitter debate among both activists and politicians in Cambridge.
Zondervan, who chairs the councilâs public safety committee, proposed a policy order that called for the âdestruction and recyclingâ of all rifles and shotguns, and the âeliminationâ of Cambridge Police Departmentâs Lenco BearCat â a $350,000 armored vehicle which the Department acquired through a Department of Homeland Security grant.

The suspect, named as Christopher Beckett, 37, refused to respond to commands to step out of a trailer, and a woman inside told officers that Beckett was not there.

A man who allegedly waved what looked like a real gun at passing drivers was arrested in Redding on Saturday following a 45-minute standoff with police.
The incident began about 3 p.m. Saturday when police were told a man was brandishing a handgun at motorists near the intersection of Placer and Pleasant streets.
Redding police said they found the man later identified as 32-year-old Ronald Turner of Redding sitting under a tree with what looked like a handgun in his waistband.
Police said Turner was extremely uncooperative and agitated and didn t comply with the uniformed officers.
Turner was sitting in front of a home not far from the Holiday Market shopping center, police said in a press release.
Oman launches offset project with University of Arizona

The Omani government has signed an agreement with the University of Arizona’s Eller Executive Education to deliver training to Omani nationals as part of an offset agreement with US armoured vehicle manufacturer Lenco Armored Vehicles.
Under the agreement, Eller Executive Education will work to create a centre at Oman’s Institute of Public Administration (IPA) to train Omani nationals to become leaders in the country’s civil service. Aims for the project include: training 25 Omani instructors to teach future courses at the IPA; training for 150 targeted employees within the country’s existing civil service; delivering short courses for 80 personnel in higher management positions and management courses for 120 trainee level staff; and enrolling 15 trainees at the University of Arizona to undertake the Advanced Government Leadership programme.
