watching a movie with your family. bret: that s really interesting. the total number of operating satellites in space you list at 5465. the u.s. has the most of those. but china has 541 and most of those are reconnaissance or intelligence slitsd. they want to monitor what we re doing up there. so they build these capabilities also to try to deny u.s. military efforts. we followed the balloon and the spy balloon and the pentagon talked about that saying they were tracking it before the particular incident and their understanding and capability increased over the last couple of years. and what sites they were over was really concerning them but their surveillance goes well beyond what we just saw recently. balloons are only a small part of the picture, right? what concerns us the most is china and to a certain extent russia are developing variety of
space. we know what s up there. let s try not to generate more. bret: politics is always a part of washington. and when the first talk ever a space force was talked about, people chuckled and space force, you know, this is like a movie. in reality, this is a serious thing going forward. absolutely it is. both china and russia reorganized their space forces. their space activities. it was really to have that leverage on us. bret: you guys study this all the time. what keeps you up at night? a space force that is organized, trains, and is equipped to deny us and others the ability to use space. nations such as china and russia, they are writing space and counter space capabilities into their national and their military strategies. they are developing a suite of weapons to destroy, deny disrupt our use of space. and any nation bringing all of that to bear is what keeps me up
