WATERTOWN â Residents will have to wait until next summer to go for a swim in the Alteri pool at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds.
Councilwoman Lisa A. Ruggiero had hoped the Steve D. Alteri Municipal Swimming Pool would reopen after a yearâs absence caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic but found out at Monday nightâs City Council meeting that some of the work cannot get done.
âI just think we should see how soon we can do it,â she said.
But on Monday night, they learned getting repairs done for the summer season could not be done in time to open it. They plan to reopen it next summer now, City Manager Kenneth A. Mix said.
WATERTOWN â City officials will soon start working on a plan to beef up security in City Hall following last weekâs murders of two business owners less than a block away.
Councilman Leonard G. Spaziani, who was appointed to City Council two weeks ago, recommends that the city make major changes in the way the public can enter City Hall.
âI think itâs time, especially after what happened last week, that the city should give serious consideration of putting together a package that this building is secure and nobody can get in,â he said. âIf they donât have business here, they should not be here.â
WATERTOWN — Despite a decision to keep it closed this summer, city residents might be able to head over to the fairgrounds and take a dip in the Alteri pool

WATERTOWN â Leonard G. Spaziani should know Monday night whether he becomes the newest member of City Council.
He met again last Wednesday with council members Lisa A. Ruggiero and Ryan Henry-Wilkinson to talk about his role on council if heâs appointed to fill the vacant position. Councilwoman Ruggiero said they were satisfied with what he had to say during the meeting after discussing a variety of city issues.
âI think heâs going to be voted in,â she said.
Two weeks ago, council members tabled the appointment because she and the councilman wanted more time to think about it. They had met with him in executive session on April 6 for about 30 minutes before tabling it.
