On Nov. 14, N.W.T. voters will head to polls to elect the next Legislative Assembly.  The issues facing the territory are significant — the election comes after a summer of wildfires, and in the midst the impending closure of major diamond mines, a declining population and a housing crisis.

The 19th Assembly of the N.W.T. was shaped by crises, beginning with a pandemic just weeks after the last premier was sworn in, and continuing with disastrous floods and wildfires. Will these be on the minds of voters next month?

Many of the people planning to run in the 2023 Northwest Territories election have political experience — indeed, at least four are members of their community’s council right now. Here's what happens during the campaign and if they win.
