ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – The chair of the Tompkins County legislature says her current term in office will be her last one.
After what will be 20 years in elected office, Leslyn McBean-Clairborne says she will not be seeking another term. The current legislative chairperson says she made the decision after much thought and consultation with family, friends and colleagues. McBean-Clairborne calls the decision a tough one, as she believes she carried a unique voice into the governing body.
Before her tenure, she was a single mother, recently graduated from welfare, but still qualifying for subsidized housing assistance.
The Tompkins County Legislature met for the first time in 2021. They re-elected Leslyn McBean-Clairborne and Shawna Black as Chair and Vice Chair respectively. The group also heard an update
