On Friday, the five-day vote to ratify a tentative agreement between academic workers represented by United Auto Workers, or UAW, 2865 and the Students Researchers Union, or SRU, and the University of California will come to an end.
The new five-year contracts include multiyear pay increases, transit benefits, improved job security for postdocs and enhanced paid family leave. The University reached an agreement with both groups in late November, and the approved contracts will be effective through September 30, 2027.
The University of California and thousands of graduate student workers have entered private mediation talks in a bid to end a monthlong strike that, at one point, included 48,000 employees across all UC campuses.
The move followed months of negotiations and concessions between the university and bargaining teams for Student Researchers United and United Auto Workers 2865.
