cnn correspondent leyla santiago joins us now from miami and governor ron desantis is giving himself accolades now for his handling of the pandemic. what do the numbers in the state of florida show us? reporter: well, let s look at south florida, for example, jim and bianna. you talk to the mayor of miami-dade and she will point out the seven-day positivity rate here is 35%. that s pretty high when you look at the rest of the pandemic and where that rate has stood. i spoke it a doctor from florida atlantic university who told me it is too soon to sort of throw in the towel or in any way applaud or think that this pandemic is over. mostly because of community transmission, especially at a time when not all children are eligible for vaccination and then when we talk about the strained hospital system. right now, bed capacity not a huge issue right now in florida. but you know what is? you talk to the health systems,

we go first to cnn s dianne gallagher who is in charlotte, north carolina. dianne, i know north carolina is seeing some ice. walk us through the situation there right now. reporter: jessica, in the mountain area there s some snow, but for the most part in north carolina it s a tale of freezing rain, sleet and that ice on the ground, and that s what makes this so potentially dangerous for the people who live here. talking about the roads at this point. we re seeing a few cars out right now. we want to show you some live footage of our drone that s how the on the highways here on the outside of charlotte, north carolina, in the uptown area, and they have gone through and plowed some of these streets. that s something that the governor has warped is not something that happen quickly across the states saying they are down manpower due to staffing issues. it may take longer to get to the roads to clear them. that s why they are asking people to basically stay off the roads until this syst
pivot the language to make sure that everybody is as up to date with their covid-19 vaccines, based on when they got their last vaccine. important right now, we re pivoting our language. cnn s senior medical correspondent elizabeth cohen is here. what s the hold up on saying fully vaccinated means three shots? you know, i m not sure what the hold up is. that s sort of the language that people have become accustomed to, to say fully versus not fully vaccinated. i don t know why they decided to make this change. perhaps the hope is that people are familiar with the concept of being up to date on your shots. certainly parents, we know, you know, is my child up to date, so maybe the hope is that using that kind of parlance that people are familiar with that that would be better. also, they didn t say it, but maybe because this might change. i mean, being up to date now might be three shots. maybe a year from now, up to date would be four shots. who knows.
