It was just the start to the Central Missouri Activities Conference schedule the Jefferson City Jays wanted. Coming off a CMAC title last year, the Jays picked up their first conference dual victory of the season Thursday with a 59-21 victory against the Sedalia Smith-Cotton Tigers at Fleming Fieldhouse.
For the first time in program history, the Jefferson City Lady Jays received team honors.
The Lady Jays took first in the Steve Johnson Invitational with 92 points Saturday at Fleming Fieldhouse, finishing just ahead of Blair Oaks in second with 85. Wright City claimed third at 71 points.
Darrell Luebbert and his coaching staff attacked the first offseason at the helm of the Jefferson City Lady Jays wrestling program with the goal of growing their numbers, and it worked. The Lady Jays will get their first look at their roster that’s triple the size of last year when they open the season at 5 p.m. today in the Steve Leslie Invitational at Pleasant Hill High School.
COLUMBIA Lexi Dunwiddie set a goal before the start of the Class 1 girls wrestling state championships. She wanted to make the finals.
Dunwiddie found a way to top that Thursday night at Mizzou Arena.
