Fifty-three years ago this June, the Stonewall rebellion took place in New York. In remembrance of this historic event, Pride Month is celebrated nationally each year in June. Our University celebrates Pride Month during the academic year, throughout the month of April, to recognize the impact and achievements of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends at WIU and beyond.
The Western Illinois University LGBT QA Resource Center will host a Pride Month celebration throughout the month of April with a full schedule of events.
The Women s Center at Western Illinois University will host Women s History Month throughout March. This year WIU is supporting the National Women’s History Month theme of "Providing Healing, Promoting Hope," and fighting for equality so we may have a more sustainable future.
