Before COVID-19 arrived in Manitoba back in March, dining in accounted for most of River View’s business. But when the first lockdown occurred in the spring, she shut the business down entirely for a couple of months and then reopened as a takeout eatery only. She reopened the dining room late in June but things didn’t go back to normal. “Business was never the same as compared to before the shutdown,” she said. “It kind of reversed. Takeout became a majority of our business and dine-in became a small portion.” When rising numbers of COVID-19 cases prompted stricter public health orders in the fall, River View and other restaurants were once again forced to offer takeout and delivery only, which is a big blow coming at the time that it did.
