ChargePoint Electric vehicles are rising in popularity, but range anxiety may scare off potential buyers. Americans are six times more likely to drive an EV if they can charge it at work. ChargePoint is helping workplaces bring charging stations to their parking lots as an employee perk. The US does not have enough electric vehicle charging stations to support the hordes of EVs anticipated to hit the market in the 2020s. There are only about 41,000 charging stations nationwide, with only 5,000 of them wielding fast-charging ability. Simply put, it will remain far easier to fill a car with gas than with electricity for years to come.

Building out a robust charging network and a power grid to support it comes with challenges, though. Two EV experts from Duke University spoke with Insider about the issues with EV charging as it stands. As the market for electric vehicles in the US heats up, automakers preparing to roll out dozens of battery-powered models face a stubborn task: convincing consumers to ditch the convenience of being able to fill up an empty tank at any of America s many, many gas stations in under five minutes.
