LibVan calls for medicinal cannabis legalisation ASAP Party wants fast action to legalise medicinal cannabis The Liberal Vannin party is calling on ministers to bring forward legislation to legalise medicinal cannabis as soon as possible. Group Chair Paul Weatherall has been reacting to the Tynwald vote, which approved a licensing system for growing cannabis on the Island. It s means government can develop an export market, but it won t be made available for medicinal use here.   Mr Weatherall says there needs to be fast action to progress this:

Liberal Vannin chair to resign ahead of new challenge The chair of Liberal Vannin is set to resign in the New Year. Michael Josem says he s stepping down so he can establish a new, non-partisan, and not-for profit organisation. He made the announcement today, and has thanked party colleagues and the public for support during his 18-month stint as chair. Mr Josem narrowly missed out on becoming an MHK this year during the Douglas South by-election.  He says the party has become more vocal during his term, and will continue to advocate for the public:   Liberal Vannin members will have to elect a new chair at a meeting in January, with Mr Josem to propose party secretary Paul Weatherall for the role.

Manx Care to cost an extra £3m

Health and Social Care Minister David Ashford was quizzed by Liberal Vannin leader Lawrie Hooper on the proposed management structure of Manx Care and DHSC and what it will cost in this week’s Keys. From April 1, Manx Care will be responsible for the operational delivery of health and social care services for Manx residents and run at arms length from the DHSC. Mr Ashford said the high-level structures of DHSC and Manx Care are ’under ongoing refinement and review by the relevant organisations as each move towards and then into fulfilling their new functions in order to suitably shape the future structure of the organisation’.
